After the outstanding reception that Non ti Pago has received from audiences in theatres throughout Italy, Luca De Filippo’s Theatre Company has decided to run the show for the third season with both the intent to continue with Luca’s projects before his premature death and to fulfil his wish to not shut down the Company.

Luca will definitely be missed on stage both by his audiences and by his actors, but he has left a precise and accurate legacy, true to our times and to his father’s dramaturgy aiming to give continuity to a tradition without relinquishing his own identity.
Non ti Pago, from the volume of “I Giorni Pari”; is one of Eduardo’s earlier works and is also one of the most brilliant and entertaining ones. The play, was first performed in 1940, and much to the delight of the audiences re-proposed by De Filippo himself with his own Company over the years with a very high appraisal of the critics.
The theme of the play is; dreams, lottery winnings, superstitions and popular beliefs of a sore and unhappy humanity, where fear, anguish and misery of everyday life does not give into hope, illusion, nor to the anticipation of a stroke of luck which could determine a better future .
It was Luca himself who had the idea to ask Gianfelice Imparato to replace him in the leading role when he fell ill. Gianfelice had started his acting career working with Eduardo and Luca was certain that he would be perfectly up to playing the character of Ferdinando Quagliuolo.
Carolina Rosi daughter of Francesco Rosi, one of the great masters of Italian cinema, who has been playing the main female roles in the Company for years is Concetta Ferdinando’s wife.
Also in the cast are Nicola Di Pinto (Aglietiello), Massimo De Matteo (Mario Bertolini), Gianni Cannavacciuolo (father Raffaele), Giovanni Allocca (lawyer Strummillo) and Paola Fulciniti (Erminia and Carmela); and the younger actors; Carmen Annibale, Viola Forestiero, Federica Altamura and Andrea Cioffi.

The Press

The Press

A somewhat crazy society with a twist of humor.
There could be no greater way to remember Luca De Filippo, who suddenly died leaving a trail of memories and sorrow behind: than that to see the last show he directed, Non ti Pago is vibrant, witty and charming, pure entertainment also thanks to a company of actors  whohave bonded with each other, and have a perfect and unique rhythm and pace exactly as required by Eduardo’s theatre works. […] Clockwork in its perfection blends, laughter, anxiety, contemplation, well played by the actors and a director who was extremely faithful to the complexity of Eduardo’s dramaturgy; perceptible in its lightness is the fiercely ironic and restless mirror of a deranged society. To be seen.
Maria Grazia Gregori, l’Unita

The last production directed by Luca De Filippo is one of Eduardo’s gems.
[…] The result was a very entertaining show, good rhythm combined with loads of energy. Gianfelice Imparato joined the company when the show was already on the road, plays Ferdinando, the role that was Luca’s, with his customary talent bursting with reticence, wrath and fear […] talented actors of the Neapolitan tradition cautious of not falling into the trap of conventional caricatures, the result of an extensive work into the historical memory is explicit. Non ti Pago is an authentic little jewel: a delicate balance between the pleasure of entertaining and the desire to narrate, between amusement and bitter sarcasm.
Anna Bandettini, La Repubblica

A De Filippo play not to be missed
[…]Gianfelice Imparato plays Ferdinando and conveys comical rhythm to perfection, pitches of restrained anger and jaded acceptance … […] a wonderful company of actors as Carolina Rosi, Gianni Cannavacciuolo, Nicola Di Pinto and Viola Forestiero who play well into their characters, in a performance where the vitality and energy of our tradition are tangible.
Magda Poli, Il Corriere della Sera

The mysterious cabala of the numbers
Luca De Filippo having refined his directing and interpretation methods matured over the years, has made an assessment. Never risking to dissipate nor diminish the danger of it being a mere “Eduardian museum” he underlines the vital points of those brilliant theatrical inventions and turns them into something related to our present. Without ever betraying the original spirit.
